In May I conducted a workshop exploring Abstraction where students first drew from the live model and then made abstract paintings from the drawings (without a live model). We all found ourselves steeped in a world of shapes, colors and marks that would have easily sustained us for at least a five day workshop versus the two days we had together. So--in response to our enthusiasm and interest in the workshop, I'm offering again this month. Many participants from the May workshop are already registered for June's and I have new students to the workshop registered as well. I have a few spaces remaining...simply email me to inquire, and see the registration information below.
Many thanks for visiting my blog.
ABSTRACT THE FIGURE: PAINTING & DRAWING
JUNE 21-22, 2008 (SAT/SUN)
Class fee: $210 Class time: 10 AM – 5 PM (includes a one-hour lunch break)
Location: 4408 Delridge Way SW (West Seattle), Youngstown Cultural Arts Center: Room 111
Discover the links between Representational and Abstract painting in this two-day painting workshop. You will draw from the live model and then use your drawings to inspire compositions that reflect the life-force (gesture) of both the model and the artist through your use of color, texture and mark-making. How we perceive Form and its function within our compositions is brought to our attention even more through this distillation of abstraction from our representational images. Previous painting and drawing experience recommended. Oil or Acrylic paints.
Workshops are held at the Youngstown Arts Cultural Arts Center in the newly renovated Historic Cooper School at 4408 Delridge Way SW—located just off of the West Seattle Bridge. There is a dedicated parking lot for the building’s Arts Center. Workshop prices include the model fee.
