Marks that fly. Marks that chirp. Marks that swirl and loop. A flurry of Marks.
At Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle there is a room full of Parakeets, Cockateels, and a few others. Visitors are allowed into the enclosure with the free-flying birds--all perched above your head (I always wear a hat!) and zooming past your ears. So exciting!
My pursuit of making Marks that move have found a new and so exciting subject of study--birds in flight. Here's a few I made this week on a chilly day at the zoo but mobbed with folks nonetheless (it is still Spring Break for some kids, I realized...).
All drawings are approximately 9" X 12", conte crayon, some on ivory pastel paper and others on white paper. All are available for purchase--just email me for details. Click on images for larger views.
